Tanya Scharaschkin is a botanist and full-time academic at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. Her research interests lie in the area of plant systematics, functional morphology and evolution. She has always been interested in both the science and the art of plants, but has had no formal training in art. Tanya joined the Botanical Artists’ Society of Queensland Inc in 2010 and undertook Margaret Hastie’s botanical drawing classes. Tanya conducts workshops on ‘Botany for Artists’ and is involved with a few projects linking science and art.
Tanya’s artistic hobbies also include photography, quilting, embroidery, papermaking and marbling on paper. Most of her projects incorporate a botanical theme, although she has designed and made a few ‘mathematical quilts’. Her artwork is held in private collections in Australia and overseas.
