Kay had no formal art training, but as a student of biology and bacteriology in her youth, enjoyed producing the detailed diagrams necessary for the practical component of these subjects, and always felt that she should carry that interest further.
Kay joined the Margaret Saul School of Botanic Art in 1990 and completed beginner and advanced levels, in drawing and painting. In recent years Kay has investigated the intricacies of scraperboard, developing her own style and techniques, particularly in depicting native plants which lend themselves to this innovative medium.
As a member of The Botanical Artists’ Society of Queensland Kay’s interest in Botanic Art has continued to grow and flourish.
